It still makes me sad to think about...
Last Mother's Day started with sunshine, but took an unexpected turn when I stepped outside.
Despite our attempts to discourage it, a persistent robin had chosen to build its nest right above our front door.
Eventually, we surrendered to nature and let the determined bird have its way.
We watched as it meticulously crafted a beautiful nest, but being that the ledge it chose to build on was only a few inches over our heads, the bird would routinely fly from the nest when we entered and exited the house.
Soon enough, in early May, there was an egg nestled within it.
It was a delight to see and felt like a small blessing, a sign of new life and beginnings.
As the mother bird often did when we went in and out of the front door,
on Mother's Day morning,
as I stepped outside,
it momentarily flew from its nest.
But this time, I had opened the door onto the shattering of a peaceful scene.
In that very moment, before I could comprehend what was happening,Β and right before my eyes,
a massive black crow swooped in
and stole the egg from the nest.
π It was a heartbreaking moment,
witnessing the cruel reality of nature unfold
on what should have been a joyous day.
It might sound trivial,
but witnessing the robbery of that delicate egg tainted my entire Mother's Day experience.
Actually, it left me in a funk all day.
It felt like a powerful lesson delivered to me,
a reminder of the fragility of life and
the unpredictable twists that nature can deliver,
even on the brightest of days.
In moments like these, it's easy to feel disheartened, but there's also beauty in the resilience of nature and the strength we find within ourselves.
As I reflect on last Mother's Day's unexpected events, I'm reminded of the importance of holding onto hope and cherishing the moments of beauty and connection that brighten our days.
To all the resilient souls out there...
hoping that your Mother's Day is filled with LOVE, LAUGHTER, and unexpected moments of JOY! π
